Questions you may have...
Q: Why art prints?
A: A few reasons… when you sell your original art, it’s gone. That for me is a weird feeling. Also art prints help me keep the cost down as I’m not spending money on so many supplies.
Q: Why are the prints inexpensive?
A: Prints cost less money than buying paint, canvas, brushes, etc. It allows me to create an entry point for all to be able to afford art and start on an art buying path.
Q: Is your work AI?
A: No, but honestly believe what you want, I don’t care. I’ve been working in the field since 1998/1999, proving myself to folks who want to believe my art isn’t mine and have never seen nor looked into my work is not on my “to do” list. My work is done as a drawing or idea sketch/layout then re-drawn and played out in illustrator. Because I use a lot of typography, brushes patterns, etc and make a lot of changes, I finish all my work in Illustrator where I can make easier alterations.
If you wanna make excuses why it’s not “real art” go for it. Truthfully I’ve watched my friends and I loose our jobs and careers all because we wanted to create in a world that was always looking for ways to simplify what we do, let “everyone be an artist” and cut us out. Also, looking at the metrics, you all seem to love AI more than you want to admit. So no, I don’t use it in my personal work… but also, I don’t care to prove myself to a world that rarely shows up and supports artist.
Q: Are those your kids pieces?
A: Yes, my kids always show work with mine. I want them to understand and appreciate art and showing art. They are great artist and have fun seeing their art shown live. We create as a family, but this time they wanted to do their own pieces.
Q: If someone asks me, who are you influenced by?
A: Two of my favorite are Roy Lichtenstein and Brian Ewing. Lichtenstein validated for me as a younger artist that a “comic book style” was art. Ewing came to me when I was working with bands. He not only was a great artist, but he was an amazing creative. Meaning he could do more than just one look and feel visually.
Q: What do you hope that people see in your work?
A: Growth and the ability to try new things. There’s so much talk about “style” now… and it’s a copout. I want to continue to show that I’m not just the [_____] guy. If you’re the ‘anime guy’ and you’re happy about that, cool. I don’t want to be a one gimmick pony.
